Menninger's Short-term Stabilization Service offers inpatient care for adolescents ages 12 to 17 who are experiencing a behavioral health crisis related to depression, anxiety and suicidality.
This joint partnership with Texas Children's Hospital (TCH) accommodates adolescents who are referred by TCH emergency rooms. The service is located in Menninger's
Adolescent Treatment Program so that patients can benefit from its healing milieu.
What's Included in Short-term Stabilization for Adolescents
Inpatient stabilization for adolescents is provided jointly by a team of Texas Children’s Hospital providers, including Baylor College of Medicine psychiatry faculty, alongside The Menninger Clinic’s
adolescent team.
Adolescents in short-term stabilization can expect to stay in the hospital for 5-7 days. During this time, they'll receive:
- Individual therapy
- Family meeting
- Stabilization care for symptom reduction
- Medication management, if needed
- Psychoeducation
- Discharge planning
Care is provided on Menninger's
50-acre campus, just 10 minutes from the Texas Medical Center.

Menninger accepts Aetna, Cigna, Magellan and ComPsych members for this inpatient stabilization service as well as the transitional day and intensive outpatient programs, and is actively seeking to accept additional insurers in the near future.
