Mental health professionals are invited to attend Menninger's upcoming webinar, Trauma in Latinx Immigrant Youth and Families: Prevalence and Consequences, with presenter Amanda Venta, PhD, on November 17. Continuing education will be available.
Latinx immigrant youth and families are rapidly growing groups in the United States and in Texas (and Houston) more specifically. Emerging scholarship suggests significant mental health needs among recent waves of Latinx immigrants, particularly with regard to trauma. Moreover, current immigration policies and practices maintain trauma exposure and health disparities in this group by separating families. The aims of this presentation are for attendees to understand the socio-political context that drives youth migration from Central America, recognize mental health needs in recently arrived Central American youth, and understand the prevalence of family separation in immigrant youth.
This event will take place November 17 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Central Time via Zoom.
