The Menninger Clinic will present the webinar Treating Chronic Suicidality: Holding Onto Our Minds in the Constant Grip of Death on October 19 from 11 am to 12:30 pm CT. Julie Skutch, PhD, will present this free continuing educational event for mental health professionals.

Treating Chronic Suicidality

Despite the identification of myriad risk factors and development of effective interventions, suicide remains a serious and growing mental health crisis. The problem of chronic suicidality is particularly vexing, as it comes to mean different things to patients and providers but holds both hostage between life and death.

In this webinar, Dr. Skutch will consider chronic suicidality, which is centered on the inherent conflict between the patient's perception of suicide as a solution and the provider's perception of suicide as a problem. Typical countertransference reactions, including helplessness and hate, will be discussed. Participants will be invited to explore their reactions to this therapeutic task.
