Menninger Psychologist Appointed to Prestigious HiTOP Consortium
Jessica Combs Rohr, PhD, has been appointed, effective April 3, to the Hierarchical Taxonomy of Psychopathology Consortium (HiTOP), which is comprised of personality researchers who aim to advance a new classification of psychopathology.
By moving away from a categorical system of diagnosis, such as that found in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual-5 currently in use, and toward an empirically derived dimensional system, the consortium hopes to improve the ability of clinical professionals to more accurately identify and treat mental health disorders.
"I am humbled to be accepted into the consortium, which includes many leading researchers in the field," said Dr. Rohr. "I'm one of the few people in the consortium who is not working exclusively in academia or doing primarily research, so I feel very honored to have been accepted."
Dr. Rohr's appointment means that Menninger will be on the leading edge of novel advances in mental illness assessment and diagnosis. In addition, Menninger will be able to contribute information that's important for our patients and will benefit immediately from new findings by the consortium.
The consortium is based out of Renaissance School of Medicine at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook, New York.
Dr. Rohr is a staff psychologist at Menninger and an assistant professor in the Menninger Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences at Baylor College of Medicine, one of the nation's top medical schools.
