At your service

Whether you call us about services for yourself or someone you know, an Admissions coordinator may request:

  • the individual’s name, age, address and phone number
  • symptoms, urgency and brief treatment history
  • insurance information
  • to talk with the current treater

The Admissions staff are available daily from 8 am to 10 pm Central Time at 800-351-9058, extension 5140. Admissions are accepted seven days a week.

What to bring
An Admissions representative guides all patients and their families through the admission process. Generally, we encourage patients to bring their currently prescribed medications, personal hygiene items, casual attire for one to two weeks, a phone card for placing personal calls and a small amount of spending money.

Menninger policy does not permit any substances containing alcohol (including mouthwash), cellular phones, laptop computers, personal digital assistant devices, razors and  other sharp items or materials that, if broken, would have a sharp edge.

Entering The Clinic
When a patient arrives, the first order of business is registration. Once the necessary forms have been completed, the patient meets with members of the assigned treatment team. In addition, the program representative notifies the referring professional.

Starting treatment
At admission, the patient:

  • receives an assessment of current symptoms
  • meets with a psychiatrist
  • moves into his or her room on the unit
  • participates in an orientation to the program
  • meets peers in the program
  • begins to receive treatment

The treatment team then coordinates and directs any further diagnostic assessments and launches an individualized treatment plan.

Throughout the patient’s stay, the primary clinician or the team social worker maintains communication with the patient’s family members and the referring professional. If special reports are needed, please inform the primary clinician so that expectations can be met.

Family participation
Family involvement in admission, treatment and aftercare planning is a central focus of the treatment approach at Menninger. If you are an adult, it is not required, but we encourage a family member or significant person in your life to accompany you on your first day at Menninger. If you are an adolescent, you are required to be accompanied by an adult to complete the admission paperwork.

The family member accompanying the adolescent patient should plan to stay for one day to assist throughout the admissions process and help provide information to the clinical team.
